CARROLLTON, Texas – June 27, 2013 – MosquitoNix®, the nation’s leader in mosquito control and mosquito misting systems, observes National Mosquito Control Awareness Week through June 29. During the week, MosquitoNix will continue to educate consumer about mosquitoes in their daily lives and the importance of mosquito control.

If consumer have not yet installed a mosquito misting system or scheduled a mosquito control treatment, MosquitoNix recommends personal protective measures like “the four Ds” to avoid mosquito bites:

·         DEET – Apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR 3535 according to label instructions. Repellents help keep mosquitoes from biting.

·         Dress – Wear clothing that reduces the risk of skin exposure.

·         Dawn and Dusk – Reduce exposure to mosquitoes during the early morning and evening hours when they are most active. It is important to wear repellent at that time.

·         Drain – Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property where mosquitoes can lay their eggs, including flowerpots, old car tires and pet bowls.

Mosquito populations can emerge from very small amounts of stagnate water. Removing items from your yard that collect water, cleaning roof gutters and filling in low-lying areas will help prevent mosquitoes from breeding and allow outdoor activities to be safer and more enjoyable for families and pets.  In addition, making sure all windows and doors have screens, and that your screens are not full of holes will also help prevent the transmission of mosquito borne diseases.
